چکیده
AIM The purpose of this research is to propose a procedure to measure the vertical larynx position in the neck at rest, of young adults without vocal complaint. STUDY DESIGN Transversal cohort study. MATERIAL AND METHOD A number of 68 subjects, aged between 18 to 44 years, 33 female and 35 male, participated in this study. The referential points used for this research were the right and left jaw angle (RJA and LJA), the centre of the cricoid arch cartilage (CC) and the centre of the sternal furculum (SF). In order to obtain the measures, the subjects were asked to be sitting still with their heads stretched up to the highest possible position. The devices used were a drawing compass and a 20-centimeter ruler. RESULTS The measurement procedure demonstrated to be easily executed and it didn't show any discomfort to the participants. There was no statistically significant difference between sexes related to the vertical larynx position in the neck; however the women presented higher larynx position than men. The vertical larynx position was easily obtained and it seems to be a very interesting parameter to intra-subject clinical follow-up.

Tracking multi-channel electroglottograph measurement of larynx height in
Changes in vertical larynx position during singing were studied in professional singer subjects using the two-channel electroglottograph recently presented by Rothenberg (1992). The evaluation of the method and the examination of the laryngeal behaviors of professionnl singers were the main aims of the study. The significance of pitch, vocal loudness and lung volume to vertical larynx position ...
متن کاملEffects of lung volume on vertical larynx position during phonation.
The vertical position of the larynx seems to be relevant to voice function. As a high vertical larynx position is often seen in hyperfunctional and strained voices, a lowering of a habitually elevated larynx is sometimes a specific goal in clinical voice therapy and different larynx-lowering exercises are used to achieve this goal. Earlier investigations have shown that pitch and to some extent...
متن کاملPhysiological aspects of a vocal exercise.
The physiological aim of vocal exercises is mostly understood in intuitive terms only. This article presents an attempt to document the phonatory behavior induced by a vocal exercise. An elevated vertical position of the larynx is frequently associated with hyperfunctional phonatory habits, presumably because it induces an exaggerated vocal fold adduction. Using the multichannel electroglottogr...
متن کاملEffect of Head Misalignment in Horizontal & Vertical Dimensions on the Magnification Rate of Digital Panoramic Radiography in Different Parts of the Jaws
Background and aim: Considering the widespread development of implants in dental treatment plans, linear measurements on panoramic radiography are of especial importance. In the present study we investigated the effect of head misalignment up to 15° around vertical and horizontal axes on the magnification rate of digital panoramic radiography in each part of upper and lower jaws. Materia...

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS To determine whether radiographic measures of hyoid position, laryngeal position, and hyolaryngeal space during phonation were different for people with primary muscle tension dysphonia (MTD) as compared to control participants without voice disorders. STUDY DESIGN Prospective, quasi-experimental research design. METHODS Twenty participants, 10 with primary MTD and 10 ...
